Anger Management: Help Get Those Emotions under Control
from: Jan L. AshbyAnger is a common emotional response to things. It happens to everyone, including you. But when your anger becomes so frequent that even the most usual things cause you to want to scream and release all the hell out of your mouth, then, you have to do something, my friend. You must face your demons head on and surmount your anger, in order that things may return to normal for you again.
Here are the things you should realize in order to help yourself overcome your anger management issue:
An angry person is a hated person - Stop and think: if you wouldn't want to be around other angry people, then why would people wish to be around you when you are angry? Don't presume that others will empathize or be understanding each time you become angry. Think of it this way: angry people are often the most avoided -- why is this, do you think?
There are many things in this world that are beyond our control - People think that they could do everything they want to. So the moment people were not able to have things under their control, they tend to become angry, just out of habit. Most of them do not pause to reflect on things; they do not weigh and analyze things, although they really should. Sadly, most folks don't know methods to release their own pent-up anger, and it builds and builds. You know, there are things which are beyond our control. These you must let go, or pray on them. Accept them.
Life is not easy, so do not waste your time and energy trying to alter this fact or brood on this issue - everyone who lived before you suffered in life in some fashion. So if you think you can get away from this "curse", then you are sadly mistaken. For life is not supposed to be easy, it is meant to have challenges so that we can learn from our individual mistakes and build our character. Thus, try not to expend so much of your energy imagining things ought to be a certain way. Instead, move on and be productive.
You have a choice. Whether to become irate really is up to you - anger is in itself indifferent. You're solely responsible in creating either destructive or constructive anger. Once you realize and accept that you can be the master of your emotions, it should become a simple task and can be managed .
Getting angry is not always want you want; you just don't know what your reaction would be. - There are instances that lead to anger where in fact, you don't have to be angry at all. Be conscious about your emotion and take control of yourself. In this way, you can really tell if you need to be angry or not.
Smile a lot - This does not mean you become flighty, or that you don't give serious consideration to the underpinnings of your anger; there may be something you need to resolve, and thus you shouldn't ignore it. What I am saying is that at times smiling can be a helpful resource, to keep one's natural tendency to become angered under control; for sometimes, we all have a tendency to get angry too easily. If you can take things more lightly (and put a better "spin" or outlook on the day), it can help you to get through the day.
Stop complaining - You cannot think right and analyze things accurately if you always complain about your situation. And you are likely to become ired if you are always complaining. So cease complaining and begin working. Accept what you have and work for what you do not yet have. Do not compare yourself to other people. It will only make things worse for you and distract you from what you ought to be focusing in on - yourself and your goals! Do things correctly, learn from your mistakes (keeping a journal can be a help); in this way you will come to understand that failing is not just failing - this is because we can learn a great deal from our foibles, our "falls". Just know that you can do it - you are not alone in this world. There is help to be had, through anger management workshops, books, help lines, or even online chat rooms and forums.
