Set Your Goals For Self Development

It is important to set your goals for self development

Why is this? When you begin the process, you will start to realize some of what your dreams and aspirations are, and through this process of self analysis and goal setting, you’ll see that it is indeed possible to improve yourself and become a better you. You will appreciate yourself more once you’ve begun to do the work.  I can tell you, from experience, that this is the case. Self improvement always feels good. In fact, it feels incredibly good, from the “inside out”.

When you look deep inside, and truly begin to delve into what needs improvement, you ought to develop a prioritized list; write it down! Record at the top your number 1 fault – the single most significant thing which, when corrected, will have the most expansive impact (i.e., make your life easier or better, while having the most lasting effect). Next, you need to look at self help courses or books which can help you achieve your self development goal. It will be a fascinating journey. There are a few books that I have employed, which I should like to mention. You can then decide if they will be of use to

accomplish your goals.

There is a book by Martha Beck which aided me enormously in examining my life, assessing where I wanted to go, and realizing what issues (i.e. self-improvement) I’d have to tackle. Now, one reviewer termed it “the single best transition book you can read”, and another individual said “it helped me truly know myself for the first time.” Go, have a look!

*NOTE: This book has an accompanying journal which might help you in your goal setting strategies (It is available through Amazon on Sept. 29, 2009) Finally, for those who still feel adrift after reading the above book, there is an additional volume by Ms. Beckwhich might provide useful.

Please be advised that you have to do the exercises in the book in order to effect changes in your life. One person reviewing the book was once a life coach herself, and said: “I was a life coach for several years in the past, and I can say that Martha Beck’s concepts here are right on, effective, and truly transformational when really applied.” Another Planning and Goal Setting article, authored by Ruth Hegarty – Jan Ashby
